Our Favorite Memphis Dog Parks

#1. Mud Island Dog Park: Riverfront Romps and City Views

I grew up in the smaller dog parks of California but I got to tell you, the huge grass field you get in this dog park will have your dog running like they never ran before.

If that sounds good to you, head down to Mud Island Dog Park, where your furry BFF can enjoy breathtaking views of the mighty Mississippi River while unleashing their inner zoomies.

This 5-acre haven boasts separate spaces for large and small dogs, ensuring everyone gets a safe and enjoyable play session.

This is a 1 minute drive or 9 minute walk from Mud Island dog park. Just keep walking down if the park/river is on your right. Dogs welcome but leashed!

A lot of people driving on the highway with animals stop here and there so much to see on a quick one hour stop. You could walk behind the park and catch amazing views of the mighty Mississippi River or walk/drive further down the same road to the world famous Memphis Sign, which is actually the cover photo of this blog as well.

#2. Shelby Farms Dog Park: Unleash Your Wild Side on 100 Acres

Calling all adventurous pups! If you thought Mud Island dog park was big, this is going to be like Disneyland for dogs.

Unleash your inner explorer at Shelby Farms Dog Park, a sprawling 100-acre wonderland for dogs of all sizes and energy levels.

Imagine your pup running free through open meadows, splashing in ponds, and exploring wooded trails – endless possibilities for tail-wagging joy!

This park is fenced in but huge, so make sure you're comfortable. It's the equivalent of a dog park the size of more than 5 baseballs fields, so get ready. Try to plan two hours here if you're only in Memphis for a little bit.

#3. Overton Bark: Midtown Charm for Urban Tails

Located in the heart of Memphis' vibrant Midtown neighborhood, Overton Bark is a perfect spot for urban pups and their humans who crave a social gathering.

This 1.3-acre park features separate areas for large and small dogs, ensuring safe play for all. I like the park when I'm in midtown but keep in mind this dog park is mulch (as opposed to as much grass as the others) so keep that in mind during wet weather. It could be a pro or a con.

Overton park is home to this dog park. It's a dog park within a bigger park.

Don't forget to check out the park's calendar for events like agility workshops and Yappy Hours – a great way to bond with your furry friend and meet other dog lovers!

Beyond the Top 3: More Pawsome Playgrounds

But wait, there's more! Memphis has a wealth of other dog parks waiting to be explored. Here are some bonus options for you and your furry pal to check out:

  • Central Bark Dog Park: This smaller park is perfect for quick play sessions and socializing with friendly pups. Conveniently located just off Poplar Avenue, it boasts separate areas for small and large dogs, ensuring safe play for all sizes.

  • Bartlett Dog Park: Looking for a park with more amenities? Head to Bartlett Dog Park, where your pup can run free in open fields, cool off in a pond, or challenge themselves on the agility equipment. Separate areas for big and small dogs ensure everyone enjoys a safe and fun playdate.

  • Greenbelt Park: If you and your pup crave both scenic walks and off-leash fun, Greenbelt Park is the place to be. Enjoy paved trails along the Mississippi River, then let your furry friend frolic in designated off-leash areas. Remember to keep your pup on a leash during walks as some portions of the park require it.

  • Forgey Dog Park: Looking for a quieter park with a more intimate feel? Forgey Dog Park might be your perfect match. Separate fenced areas for large and small dogs provide safe play, while shady trees and ample space offer a relaxing atmosphere for both you and your canine companion.

Remember, Responsible Park Etiquette is Key!

Responsible dog park etiquette ensures everyone has a positive experience. Here are some reminders:

  • Always supervise your pup: Keep an eye on their interactions with other dogs and ensure they remain under your control.

  • Clean up after your dog: No one enjoys stepping in surprises, so be a responsible pet parent and pick up after your furry friend.

  • Respect other park users: Be mindful of others and their dogs, maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.

Conclusion

I have lived in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and India. I can tell you Memphis has the best dog parks I have seen anywhere in the world. Since land is cheap and everybody has dogs, and the weather is usually great....your dog will be spoiled for choice.
